Spanish Moss

フロリダにスパニッシュモスという樹がある。
不思議な樹。
日本では見かけない樹だから余計に見入ってしまう。

Kenの家族に会ってきた！
Kenも個性豊かだけど、彼の姪たちもとっても個性が豊かで面白い。
日本の漫画が好きな子、ボーイッシュでクールな子、
おませでスポーツ大好きな子、シャイで怒りっぽい子、
寂しがり屋でしっかりしてる子、、、
それでいてみんな優しい。

Kenのお兄さんはとっても良いパパ。子供達はみんなパパの事が大好き！と言う。
パパは幸せだ〜。

私は今までアメリカはNYくらいしか知らなかったから、アメリカの違う地域に来てみて、アメリカのイメージが良い意味で変わった。

でもやっぱり外国に来てみると、日本って凄いなといつも改めて思う。
食べ物は美味しいし、みんなしっかり仕事をこなす。トイレはきれい。

どんな国にも良い所と悪い所があるけれど、
今回はアメリカの良い所をたくさん経験させてもらっているよ

同級生

先日、幼稚園の同窓会を開きました！
約６０人居る幼稚園の同級生のうち、２２人が集まってくれました
そして当時お世話になった４人の先生方も、参加して下さいました
みんなとても久しぶりの再会だったけれど、みんな昔と変わらず、とても懐かしい時間を過ごせました みんな本当にありがとう！！

みんな一人一人が幼稚園の同級生や先生方にメールや電話をしてくれて
最初は何人集まるかも分からなかったけど、２６人も集まり、感謝しています。

みんなそれぞれの人生を歩んでいたよ

会社員。
システムエンジニア。
幼稚園の先生。
介護士。
プータロー。
大学院生。
警察官。
販売員。
事務員。
自由人。etc

色んな生き方の人が居て、とても面白かった
「十人十色 」
みんなそれぞれの思いや考えがあって、今を生きていました
懐かしくってなんだか元気になったよ！！

After leaving Ikeda we headed for Cape Erimo. There is actually a famous song about the cape, but I'm not sure how it goes.Anyway this particular cape is very well known for having really strong winds.After our three hour drive from Ikeda we arrived at the cape just in time to witness a beautiful sunset.

On August 10th Ken and I made a radical decision to get off the beaten path.
We'd had our fill of large amounts of tourists swarming around all the popular tourist attractions. It was time to find roads less traveled and do our own thing. It didn't take along before we realized that we had made the right decision. The roads were empty and sometimes we were the only ones on the road except for the odd farm tractor.It was like we had a special chunk of Hokkaido all to ourselves.

Off the beaten path

Can you guess where we are now?
Alright, perhaps you could use a few hints.
This place was originally inhabited by mainly the native Ainu population.　
Then in 1883 the modern city was founded by the Banseisha, a group of colonial settlers from Shizuoka.
The popular local food here is Buta-donburi, delicious barbecue pork on rice.

In the beginning of last month my friend Saki were sitting around and just having a small chat about what our friends from kindergarten are doing now.

二湖　 Shiretoko's second　of five lakes: 森に包まれて。

We went today to Shiretoko five lakes and the Kamui wakka waterfalls.
Three of the lakes were closed due to recent bear sightings.
The ones that were open provided a feast for the eyes with striders, small fishes, a variety of insects, and the occasional deer.
Just being around these lakes inspired in me a whole new sense of reflection about how vital water is to all living things.

What a beautiful sunny day it was here in Hokkaido!
We took a boat cruise and checked out some really cool rock formations.
We also saw bears and dolphins along the way.

Shireteko bear: Out for a stroll along the beach

知床半島の、ウトロの町から書き込んでるよ。
今日は船で知床半島を一望してきた。
熊やイルカ、シャチ、たくさんの水鳥たちと出会うことができた。
そして海と大地と空のコラボレーションは、まさに神様が創造したとしか思えないほどの
素晴らしいものだった。

私達人間も彼らの一部のはずなのに、

霧が晴れた摩周湖: 朝日が湖面に反射していて奇麗

早起きは三文のとく。

この夏の時期は霧に包まれている事の多い、霧の摩周湖。
今日はたまたま早起きした私たちは、窓の外を見てスカッと空が晴れているのをみてビックリした。

昨夜は土砂降りの雨で、「明日はきっと摩周湖は見れないかな」
と思っていたからだ。

朝のお散歩がてら、摩周湖の展望台まで１０分ほど車を走らせる。

展望台への階段を登って行くと、わーっと視界が開けた。

摩周湖が目の前一面に広がっている。

昔、アイヌの人たちも何か儀式やお祈りのようなものがある時は、
摩周湖に訪れることもあったという。

周りには自然があふれ、たくさんの虫や鳥たちが住んでいる。
美しかった。

昨日と今日、アイヌコタンに行ってきた。
アイヌの人々には前から興味があって、ずっとアイヌの人たちに触れてみたかったから、
今回は本当に楽しみにしていたの。

アイヌの人たちは、本当に心の中から優しさや思いやりに満ち溢れている人たちだなと思った。

もちろんそれぞれ色んな個性を持っているけれど、アイヌの人たちと話し始めると、
なんだか色んな話になって長話しになる。

この時間がとっても心地よい。

彼らの伝統的な踊りも、習慣も、考え方も、ハートも、私は大好きだ。
私は、また人間と自然とが調和して共に暮らせる日のヒントを、
彼らから少しでも感じれたと思う。

今回は沖縄からのミュージシャンも招かれていて、アイヌと沖縄のコラボレーションのステージを体感することができた。これがまた凄かった！！
身が清められた感じでした。
