Even though things are gradually changing, most of my friends and students are not big American football fans. They remain hardcore soccer or baseball fans.I was pretty hardcore about American football growing up back in the states. It wasn't uncommon for me to spend countless hours in front of the tube watching millionaires subject themselves to immense bodily injury chasing after the oval shaped pigskin. Now I have scaled back my TV viewing time but do still like to follow the sport. The global appeal for the sport has been increasing and like most other sports, once you become familiar with the rules a lot of the resistance fades and the fun begins. So I say with the season now officially underway, why not give it a shot and see what all the fuss is about, and if you enjoy cheering for the underdog, please cheer for my hometown team, the Miami Dolphins. They'll need all the help they can get.
